Headlines today----Abu Ghraib prison to be destroyed if Iraqis give permission? From whom and how will that permission be obtained?

Answer. It will be some entity that is in favor of the destruction of the prison because it has now become and negative image for America, and President Bush. While the prison stood as a negative image for Iraq and Saddam it was acceptable to us.

In fact we moved right in and started using it.

The first rule of ruling is to manage all the images to produce the most pleasing results.

Punta Gorda Florida. Home of the white Flamingo. Actually what happened is the morning sun just breaking the horizon turned this pink flamingo into blazing color. I ran out and took this picture. My little digital web cam type camera recorded it as white.

Keep smiling This was a happy day. I was 69 years old. In three more months I'll be 71 years old. An even happier day.

Well I'm making progress. A Google search on "curious mind henry b stevens" resulted in me being second out of 7,970 search results. I still have work to do.

My poem "Apart" a few posts down has become a THEME for me. Everywhere I look I see harened hearts and filtered ears. Not only are people prevented from reaching one another, but they are becoming more shrill.

Is there anyway to lower the volumn and reduce the filtering.

I don't see how we can make progress unless we find some way to look and listen to each other with softer hearts and ears wide open. All at a lower volumn with less shrillness and fewer smear words. Honest dialogue would seem a virtue we might strive for.

When he dropped the microphone
the cord and mike flew apart.
Leaving them aside,
he continued speaking.

in contrast many of
the brothers and sisters
are disconnected
and not speaking

yes, they apppear to
speak, but their ears
hear only words
agreeable to themselves

their hearts are nulled
to any difference
of thought or practice
labeling it negatively

one large disconnect
concerns whether,
are we created?
are we an unfolding mystery?

should we learn about
what is going on?
should we read the book
and wait for revelation?

do we merely
cancel out one another?
with conclusive faith
contesting evidence?

what can we do
to open our
hearts and ears
to benefit us all?

A recent guest editorial in my local paper (Sun) complained about Sinclair Broadcasting Group's blackout of "Night-line" on its 62 stations on the day Ted Koppel was to read the names of USA soldiers who have died in Iraq.

The truth is that much of our local consumption news available anywhere in the USA is not the complete story. Bias aside, there are many ways of looking at an event, and each viewer will carry away a different conclusion.

An antidote is to look at Google News a couple times a day. The top stories will all have links to newspapers world wide. Click on names you do not know, names from far away places and read what their take is on the story.

About an hour ago I started working on Blog and updating the recent poems. I was using the old familiar format. I'm finishing up my work now and I'm using the newly created revised blog format. It's terrific. I added my picture and some info to my profile. This is going to be fun. I'll check out more details tomorrow.

Gatekeepers

The gatekeepers
are vunerable
though they pretend
to stay in control.

They and government
will team together
to hide or fake
the fact

The usual lies and cons
the threat of taxes
and permits
fading, fading away

Now endplays
appearing all over
the earth available
by the internet

Instant information
words and video
allow little people
to break out of line

Their ranks will
swell and the
gatekeepers
can go to hell.

This poem was in my head for a couple of weeks. I finally wrote it 5/5/2004.

On Sat May 8, 2004 10:33 GMT the BBC News World Edition with the headline
"US Powerless to halt Iraq net Images"

Mr Rumsfeld is quoted as saying "taking these unbelievable photographs and then passing them off, against the law, to the media, to our surprise."

Well, this is just what my poem was about. Hooray for the little people.....henry

Unfit, Mary Marconi
sits alone. head bowed
while the fit edge forward
to receive the sacrament.

Divorced, alone,
Mary thinks about her
annuled remarried husband
while crying softly.

Mary watches the lines
form, receive, and disperse
knowing the lines in
her face have been her downfall.

Devout, caring, believing
her marriage secure
until young smooth skin
broke the holy matrimony.

Mary unequivocally
trapped by church law
she cannot change,
remains unfit forever.


(Mary is not the real name. It's Agnes, Joyce and Dawn; that I personally know of. You can no doubt put real names in place of Mary. This is not an uncommon story.)

With all the ink on Google ahead of its public offering I find it comforting that a search for "Henry B Stevens" ranks me and my business as number one. Not moving, not dancing
lying very still
now a coverlet
a decoration
for remains forever static.

The starred blue square
marks the head
although we do not know
or ask if there is a head inside.

The red white stripes
point to the feet
as in patrol, platoon
squad and squadron.

Do not look or note
or photograph these flags
covering metal boxes
it's unpatriotic.

Do not recite the names
of what the remains were called
as it aids the enemy
is an intrusion on family grief.

Do explain to the children
especially the very young ones
why flags are gleefully everywhere
when starting the war.

But now we do not look at
or think about
flags on
metal boxes.
